How many treatments will I need?

On average the best results are achieved with 3-6 treatments. The treatments may be at 2-4 week intervals. When you have your consultation the technician will give you a more accurate treatment plan based on your skin concerns. Hormonal pigmentation such as Melasma and Chloasma may require extra treatments or regular/long term treatments once desired results are achieved to prevent the pigmentation from reoccurring.

What will happen during my treatment?

When you have your treatment it will begin with us cleansing your skin to ensure it is free from makeup, dirt and sunscreen/moisturiser. We will give you specially designed goggles to wear during the treatment, these goggles are made specifically for the wavelengths of light used with IPL. A cooling conductive gel will be applied to your skin. The application of light is made by using a sapphire crystal in a handpiece. The light will be a short bright flash and will create a sensation that many people describe as a flicking of an elastic band. Your therapist will ask you throughout the treatment if you are comfortable. The gel will be removed and we will apply sunscreen to your skin.

What will happen after my treatment?

After your treatment you may be slightly flush and the treated area may feel slightly warm. Many clients feel nothing following the procedure. The treated pigmentation often becomes darker, this happens because the excess melanin has absorbed the light and is now making its way to the surface of the skin. The pigment can sometimes go so dark it appears black. The pigmented cells will move towards the surface of the skin and slough off within 7-14 days, or will gradually fade., leaving a much lighter and smaller pigmented lesion or it may no longer be visible.

Is IPL right for me?

IPL is a very successful treatment and when performed by qualified and experienced technicians like the staff at O’Hara Skin & Body Clinic, it is a safe procedure. We use state of the art equipment, have received qualifications from Australasian Academy of Dermal Science and we always perform in depth consultations before commencing any treatment. There are restrictions on who can receive IPL treatment. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are not suitable for IPL and many medications may be contraindicated. Photosensitizing medications create a risk of burns. It is important to be honest with us when filling out consultation forms so we can perform safe and effective treatments. Dark skin colours may be difficult to treat so your therapist may recommend an alternative treatment if IPL is not the most appropriate treatment for you.

Is there specific preparation or aftercare?

Yes, before IPL it is extremely important to avoid unprotected sun exposure or solarium use for at least 4 weeks before your treatment. Once you commence treatment you must avoid unprotected sun exposure between treatments. Your therapist will prescribe you the necessary home care products to ensure your skin is protected and you will achieve the desired results. You may be required to stop particular skin products or medications before commencing treatment and if you have had recent botox or fillers in the treatment area we advise that there be a 4 week interval before having IPL. Please ensure that the treatment area is completely free of artificial tan at the time of treatment.

After IPL it is best to avoid excessive heat in the treatment area. Avoid a hot sweaty workout or hot shower/bath for 12 hours post treatment. Never pick or scratch the area. Use the sun protection prescribed by your therapist every day.

Skin Needling

Skin needling is a non-invasive, clinical treatment that uses microscopic needles to treat skin concerns such as aging and the tone and texture of the skin. Tiny puncture channels are created within the epidermis and dermis to encourage organic renewal and a regenerating response. As the needles are gently rolled over the skin, a natural skin reaction is created where circulation is increased and tiny electrical signals are triggered.

What results can be achieved?

Our clients can generally notice a change within the first few treatments, the skin will start to clear and appear smoother and more even. Results vary between clients and to get the most out of your treatment, it is best to follow the home care routine prescribed by your therapist. Using the correct home care will make up for 70% of your overall outcome. Results are ongoing, and continue to enhance over 6 months following the course.

What will happen during my treatment?

When you come in for your treatment we will cleanse the skin to make sure the area is free from makeup, moisturisers and sunscreen. We will then apply a numbing cream to make sure your treatment is comfortable, this is sealed in with glad wrap to ensure maximum absorbency. Once the skin is completely numbed (usually after 30-45 minutes) we will sterilise the skin with chlorhexidine and start rolling the needles over your skin. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Once we have finished the rolling, we will use a saline solution to re-cleanse the area and apply specialised a retinol serum and a moisturiser. Sunscreen can also be applied post treatment.

What will happen after my treatments?

Your skin will appear like a mild sunburn following your treatment and will settle within 48 hours, normally by that night. Slight swelling may occur directly after the treatment but will settle within a few days

Is Skin Needling right for me?

There are a few restrictions when it comes to Skin needling, these include pregnant and breastfeeding women, some medications including Roaccutane and blood thinning medications like Warfarin. It is important when filling out our consult forms to be completely honest with us so we can perform a safe and effective treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

On average, the recommended number of treatments is 4-6 treatments once every 4-6 weeks (depending on skin sensitivity). Results vary depending on the clients’ needs. When you have your consultation the technician will give you a more accurate treatment plan based on your skin concerns.

Is there any specific preparation or aftercare?

It is very important with Skin Needling to correctly prep your skin before your first appointment. It is a great idea to come in for a chat with our lovely staff member who will be performing your treatment so we can recommend the products you need to get your skin ready. The most important active ingredient for Skin Needling is Retinol. This will strengthen your skin and increase the healing process of the treatment. It is essential to follow the home care routine that will be prescribed by your therapist. Daily sunscreen application is a must, not only while receiving this treatment but for every day after to protect your skin from further damage.

Microdermabrasion

Our Microdermabrasion treatment is the latest trend in crystal-free microdermabrasion. It uses a diamond head and suction to deeply exfoliate the skin. The treatment stimulates circulation which encourages collagen and elastin production. The treatment is pain-free, relaxing, treats a wide range of skin concerns/conditions and is suitable for majority of people.

What results can be achieved?

You will notice an improvement in the texture and tone of your skin immediately after one treatment.  You will experience general exfoliation, reduction in pore size and oil production, brightening of the skin, less blackheads, pimples and congestion, increased hydration, reduction of scars, fine lines and wrinkles. With use of your prescribed home care regime you will achieve fast and dramatic results and require less treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Every client is different the number of treatments needed will depend on many factors. Our exceptional therapists can accurately quote a treatment plan when you have a consultation and skin analysis. The general course of treatments is 6-8 and can be done at intervals of 1-4 weeks.

What will happen during my treatment?

Microdermabrasion is approximately 45 minutes. You will be made comfortable in the treatment room on one of our beauty beds. The treatment begins with a thorough cleansing and is followed by a skin diagnosis. The dermabrasion is performed by the therapist supporting your skin and moving a pen like handpiece in small lines across your skin. The entire face is covered. You will feel suction and gentle abrasiveness of the diamond tip. The sensation is comfortable and the level of suction is adjusted to suit each client. After the face has been treated, a mask selected by the therapist for you will be applied. We complete the treatment with the application of eye treatment cream, serum and moisturiser plus sunscreen. Microdermabrasion can be incorporated into other facial treatments or received as a stand alone treatment. LED is also extremely effective and boosts results when added to a Microdermabrasion treatment.

What will happen after my treatment?

You may be slightly flushed and feel a sensation like mild sunburn. This can last up to 24 hours but generally is gone within 2-5 hours. Keeping your skin cool will return your skin to its normal state faster. You will notice your skin feeling smoother very quickly. Some clients experience a tight feeling for several days following the treatment and this occurs due to the collagen production increasing and the oil production being reduced. Depending on your current skin condition and home care regime, you may experience a breakout as the congestion makes its way to the surface of the skin and then disappears. Your therapist will ensure you are prescribed the correct home to prevent and minimise breakouts.

Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

Microdermabrasion is safe and minimally invasive. There are some restrictions for the treatment. Clients that are currently taking Roaccutane or have taken Roaccutane in the last 6 months are not suitable for Microdermabrasion without a clearance note from their general practitioner or dermatologist. Clients with a history of keloid scarring may not be good candidates. Current cystic acne needs to controlled with other treatments before accepting Microdermabrasion. Freckles may not be significantly reduced as the treatment works on a superficial level and the pigmentation in freckles tends to be in deeper layers of the skin. Your skin will appear brighter though. Microdermabrasion will greatly reduce hormonal pigmentation and sun damage. We can treat many areas such as face, neck, décolletage, shoulders, hands and back.

Is there specific preparation or aftercare?

Yes, As Microdermabrasion provides deep exfoliation it is important to have stopped the use of any exfoliating products that have not been prescribed by your O’Hara dermal therapist. To achieve best results, unprotected sun exposure needs to be avoided for 4 weeks before treatment commencement.

What results can be achieved?

Dermal peels are a safe and effective treatment and work in a unique way to get fast results without the downtime of some traditional peeling treatments.
