Skin Needling

shutterstock_230184487Skin needling is a non-invasive, clinical treatment that uses microscopic needles to treat skin concerns such as aging and the tone and texture of the skin. Tiny puncture channels are created within the epidermis and dermis to encourage organic renewal and a regenerating response. As the needling device is moved over the skin, a natural skin reaction is created where circulation is increased and tiny electrical signals are triggered.

What results can be achieved?

Our clients can generally notice a change within the first few treatments, the skin will start to clear and appear smoother and more even. Results vary between clients and to get the most out of your treatment, it is best to follow the home care routine prescribed by your therapist. Using the correct home care will make up for 70% of your overall outcome. Results are ongoing, and continue to enhance over 6 months following the course.

What will happen during my treatment?

When you come in for your treatment we will cleanse the skin to make sure the area is free from makeup, moisturisers and sunscreen. We will then apply a numbing cream to make sure your treatment is comfortable, this is sealed in with glad wrap to ensure maximum absorbency. Once the skin is completely numbed (usually after 30-45 minutes) we will sterilise the skin with chlorhexadine and start moving the electronic needling device over your skin. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Once we have finished, we will use a saline solution to re-cleanse the area and apply specialised serum and a moisturiser. Sunscreen will be applied post treatment.

What will happen after my treatments?

Your skin will appear like a mild sunburn following your treatment and will settle within 48 hours, normally by that night. Slight swelling may occur directly after the treatment but will settle within a few days

Is Skin Needling right for me?

At O’Hara Skin and Body Clinic, we use state of the art equipment, highly trained and qualified technicians to ensure the safest, most effective procedure. There are a few restrictions when it comes to Skin needling, these include pregnant and breastfeeding women, some medications including Roaccutane and blood thinning medications like Warfarin. It is important when filling out our consult forms to be completely honest with us so we can perform a safe and effective treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

On average, the recommended number of treatments is 4-6 treatments once every 4-6 weeks (depending on skin sensitivity). Results vary depending on the clients’ needs. When you have your consultation the technician will give you a more accurate treatment plan based on your skin concerns.

Is there any specific preparation or aftercare?

It is very important with Skin Needling to correctly prep your skin before your first appointment. It is a great idea to come in for a chat with our lovely staff member who will be performing your treatment so we can recommend the products you need to get your skin ready. The most important active ingredient for Skin Needling is Retinol. This will strengthen your skin and increase the healing process of the treatment. It is essential to follow the home care routine that will be prescribed by your therapist. Daily sunscreen application is a must, not only while receiving this treatment but for every day after to protect your skin from further damage.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion treatments are painless, and in fact quite relaxing. They employ the power of diamond microdermabrasion resurfacing wands to gently buff or massage your skin tissue driving out dead skin cells, oil, and entrenched contaminants that are then vacuumed through the re-surfacing wand. The treatment is like a ‘superficial skin polishing’ that feels like deep tissue massage. They are slow and progressive, and for best results received as a course of weekly or bi-weekly sessions, ranging from 2- 12 weeks. However, you will see immediate results. After just one treatment, this gentle, abrasive technique reveals a brand new skin surface that is healthier and revitalized. Your skin will have a fresh pink glow and feel smoother and softer. Microdermabrasion provides a safe alternative to invasive, skin-resurfacing techniques.

What results can be achieved?

You will notice an improvement in the texture and tone of your skin immediately after one treatment.  You will experience general exfoliation, reduction in pore size and oil production, brightening of the skin, less blackheads, pimples and congestion, increased hydration, reduction of scars, fine lines and wrinkles. With use of your prescribed home care regime you will achieve fast and dramatic results and require less treatments.

Microdermabrasion VS Diamond Peel?

This skin-freshening technique can be performed using two different types of machines: a standard microdermabrasion machine, and the newer Diamond Peel machine.

What is the difference?

diamond-microdermabrasionIntroduced to the US market in 1996, standard microdermabrasion uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny aluminium-oxide crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. The primary difference between microdermabrasion and the diamond peel is that Microdermabrasion involves the skin being “sandblasted” by aluminium-oxide crystals to remove the top layer of the skin while the diamond peel’s diamond tipped wands uses a particle-free method that canyield greater results with less down time. The regular crystal microdermabrasion technology involves the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of aluminium-oxide crystals onto the skin. At the same time, the machine’s
vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals. The diamond dermabrasion system, on the other hand, replaces the micro-crystal flow with a disposable or reusable diamond tip wand. Areas closer to the eyes and mouth can be abraded more accurately with diamond dermabrasion (no risk of stray crystals causing damage or being ingested).

How many treatments will I need?

Every client is different the number of treatments needed will depend on many factors. Our exceptional therapists can accurately quote a treatment plan when you have a consultation and skin analysis. The general course of treatments is 6-8 and can be done at intervals of 1-4 weeks.

What will happen during my treatment?

You will be made comfortable in the treatment room on one of our beauty beds. The treatment begins with a thorough cleansing and is followed by a skin diagnosis. The dermabrasion is performed by the therapist supporting your skin and moving a pen like handpiece in small lines across your skin. The entire face is covered. You will feel suction and gentle abrasiveness of the diamond tip. The sensation is comfortable and the level of suction is adjusted to suit each client. After the face has been treated, a mask selected by the therapist for you will be applied. We complete the treatment with the application of eye treatment cream, serum and moisturiser plus sunscreen. Microdermabrasion can be incorporated into other facial treatments or received as a stand alone treatment. LED is also extremely effective and boosts results when added to a Microdermabrasion treatment.

What will happen after my treatment?

You may be slightly flushed and feel a sensation like mild sunburn. This can last up to 24 hours but generally is gone within 2-5 hours. Keeping your skin cool will return your skin to its normal state faster. You will notice your skin feeling smoother very quickly. Some clients experience a tight feeling for several days following the treatment and this occurs due to the collagen production increasing and the oil production being reduced. Depending on your current skin condition and home care regime, you may experience a breakout as the congestion makes its way to the surface of the skin and then disappears. Your therapist will ensure you are prescribed the correct home to prevent and minimise breakouts.

Is Microdermabrasion right for me?

Microdermabrasion is safe and minimally invasive. There are some restrictions for the treatment. Clients that are currently taking Roaccutane or have taken Roaccutane in the last 6 months are not suitable for Microdermabrasion without a clearance note from their general practitioner or dermatologist. Clients with a history of keloid scarring may not be good candidates. Current cystic acne needs to controlled with other treatments before accepting Microdermabrasion. Freckles may not be significantly reduced as the treatment works on a superficial level and the pigmentation in freckles tends to be in deeper layers of the skin. Your skin will appear brighter though. Microdermabrasion will greatly reduce hormonal pigmentation and sun damage. We can treat many areas such as face, neck, décolletage, shoulders, hands and back.

Is there specific preparation or aftercare?

Yes, As Microdermabrasion provides deep exfoliation it is important to have stopped the use of any exfoliating products that have not been prescribed by your Light Aesthetics dermal therapist. To achieve best results, unprotected sun exposure needs to be avoided for 4 weeks before treatment commencement.
After Microdermabrasion you will need to follow the dermal plan prescribed by your therapist, this will maintain and boost your results. Please avoid a hot, sweaty workout and hot shower/bath for 12 hours following your treatment. Your skin must be protected from the sun daily.

Dermal Peels

Dermal peels are a method of regenerating and resurfacing the skin by inducing a controlled injury to the skin. They remove the top layers skin to help induce collagen remodelling and therefore improve sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, skin texture, and the overall appearance of the skin.

Selection of Peels

We offer a range of peels to suit individual needs. The range of peels start from gentle entry level peels perfect for the beginner to very advanced which require commitment to homecare and pre/post treatment instructions to ensure outstanding results and safety. Your dermal therapist will discuss your needs and skin goals to best select a peel and skin plan for you.

You can generally get an all over lightening effect on the skin however some pigment may completely disappear depending on the severity.

What will happen after my treatment?
